Incorporated in 1992, Jammat (pronounced Jah-Maht)
Housing and Community Development Corporation
(JHCDC) is a 501 (C) 3, non-profit corporation. We are a
community-based, minority owned and operated
company. JHCDC fulfills the vision of the Wallace Bey
and the late Robert W. Lewis, Jr., who originally
incorporated the company. The mission of the agency is to
develop and operate programs that substantially improve
the quality of life for the residents of the State of Rhode
Island. To that end, our programs include educational and
supportive services such as childcare, residential care for
juveniles, recreational offerings and educational
opportunities. This agency operates several different
community based programs, including Turning The
Corner Group Homes, The Elmwood Community School
and Beautiful Beginnings Child Care Center.
Our agency currently serves the entire State of Rhode
Island with programs operating in the City of Providence,
Warwick and Pawtucket. Our target population is low-to-
moderate income individuals and families. We offer a
varying range of services at no charge to the clients we
serve. Our Corporation has been fully committed to
improve the quality of life of the clients we serve as well
as our employees. Our corporate motto is “People Making
A Difference.” We believe by investing the proper
resources in people, we can help them make a difference
in the communities in which they serve. We also believe
that all people have an intrinsic value that can be and
should be cultivated, in order to help them become the
best persons they can be, despite whatever historical odds
they may have faced.
Our workforce as well as our clients represent a very
diverse ethnic population. We are proud of our ability to
bring persons of varying backgrounds together to work for
